These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of basementcalculator.com, including its calculators, articles and other content (the “Site”), operated by Basement Calculator (“we,” “us” or “our”). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.
1. What this site is
Basement Calculator is an independent publisher of home improvement cost calculators, guides and planning tools. We are not a contractor, lender, inspector, engineer, attorney, tax advisor or health professional, and we don’t perform or sell construction services. Using the Site doesn’t create any contractor, client or professional relationship between you and us.
2. Estimates are for planning only
All cost estimates, payback periods, loan payments, sizing recommendations and other results from our calculators are general estimates for planning purposes only. They are based on national averages and assumptions that may not match your home, location, materials, market conditions or contractor. They are not quotes, bids, appraisals, loan offers or guarantees of any price or outcome.
Before you make decisions or start work, get written quotes from qualified, licensed and insured professionals, and confirm requirements with your local building department. Nothing on the Site is professional advice:
- Construction and structural: building codes vary by location. Structural, electrical, plumbing, gas and foundation work should be evaluated and performed by licensed professionals.
- Health and safety: information about radon, mold, air quality and similar topics is general education, not medical or environmental advice. Follow EPA and local health guidance and consult qualified professionals.
- Financial, tax and legal: financing comparisons, rental income estimates and tax notes are not financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Rates shown are examples. Consult a qualified professional about your situation, including zoning and landlord-tenant laws.
3. Accuracy of information
We work to keep our content accurate and up to date, and we welcome corrections through our contact page. However, prices, codes, products and regulations change, and we can’t guarantee that any content is complete, current or error-free. You use the Site and rely on its content at your own risk.
4. Third-party links, contractors and products
The Site links to and embeds content from third parties, including retailers, contractor directories, quote services and lenders. Some of these are affiliate links, as explained in our Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure. We don’t control, employ, vet or guarantee these third parties or their products, services, prices or work. You may use the Site and its calculators for your personal, non-commercial purposes, and you may share links to our pages and estimates. You agree not to:
- Copy, republish, sell or redistribute our content, calculators or code without written permission, beyond brief quotes with a link back
- Scrape, crawl or harvest the Site in bulk, or embed our calculators on another site, without permission
- Interfere with the Site’s operation or security, or attempt to access it in unauthorized ways
- Submit comments or messages that are unlawful, abusive, misleading, spam or that infringe someone else’s rights
6. Content you submit
If you post a comment, vote in a poll or send us a message, you’re responsible for what you submit. By posting a comment, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, edit for length or clarity, and remove it. We may moderate or delete any submission at our discretion. How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual property
The Site and its content, including text, calculators, code, graphics, logos and design, are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. Except as allowed in these Terms, no rights are granted to you. If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, contact us with the details and we’ll review it promptly.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, CALCULATORS AND RESULTS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON’T WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BASEMENT CALCULATOR AND ITS OWNER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, SAVINGS, DATA OR PROPERTY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SITE, ITS ESTIMATES, OR ANY THIRD-PARTY PRODUCT, SERVICE OR CONTRACTOR, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Basement Calculator and its owner from any claims, losses or expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from your misuse of the Site, your submissions or your violation of these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to the Site or these Terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
12. Changes and termination
We may update these Terms at any time by posting a new version with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Site after changes means you accept them. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Site, or restrict access, at any time. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
